I enjoy Bangkok or Krungthep as it
is known in Thai (City of Angels) every time I visit.
While it is a very polluted and noisy city, it is also very beautiful. If you do visit make
sure you take advantage of any and all trips outside of town to see the various temples (Wats)
and shrines. Once outside of the city it is a completely different environment and way
of life. While in Bangkok there are many great hotels to stay at, two of my favorites are the
award winning Mandarin Oriental hotel and the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.
The Karnmanee Palace Hotel is awesome with its rooftop pool and restaurant just
ask the p's (Red Ant Egg Salad anyone?). The Nana Hotel and Nana Tai Mansion are
great as well and very centrally located. Trips to Sampeng
Market, the Golden Buddha and the Grand Palace are musts. Make sure you give yourself time
to visit the Grand Palace as it is a huge complex. If you are feeling brave take a boat up
and down the Chao Phraya River;-) The Golden Mountain, Giant Swing and a Thai boxing match
are also great things to see and do in while in town. Having lunch and a Singha at one of the
small stands is great but beware of hot and spicy dishes (you are warned).
A visit to Soi 4 (Nana Plaza) with its many many bars and girls is well worth
your time. If you are feeling extremely adventurous pop down to Soi 23
(Soi Cowboy) and visit its numerous bars or over to Soi 7 and visit Club Eden
but be warned it is not for the faint of hearts!!! If you can find it stop
into Lolita's, it is my favorite bar in the WORLD! Kor hai chok dee!!!
